Rebuilding of Pondicherry and Madagascar quays in port of Havre
In view of unfavorable conditions (sandy clay), construction method selected consisted of erection of steel sheet pile face-wall anchored by means of tie rods to steel-pile anchor wall; to prevent fractures caused by soil settlement, tie rods are attached to sheet piles and anchor wall by means of pivot hinges; this type of construction proved to be eminently suitable for poor grade soils of low load carrying capacity and high settlement.
