Forests and stream flow
Report on experiment by U S Forest Service and U S Weather Bureau, conducted from 1910 to 1926, on two contiguous tracts in Southern Colorado; results indicate that small growth that springs up immediately after deforestation exercises practically same effect as forests in reducing normal flood crests and in preventing erosion -- without detrimental effect which forest cover has on annual flow and flow during summer low-water periods. (See also - discussions in n 7 Sept p 1288-93, n 9 Nov p 1614-36 and n 10 Dec p 1811-36; French abstract in Genie Civil v 101 n 19 Oct 29 1932 p 434-6)
