Construction of Saint-Jean bridge in Bordeaux
26.8 m wide prestressed concrete bridge has four 77-m main spans and two 66.7-m side spans; three box girders of quasi-constant height constructed in cantilever, are joined by floor plates forming road slab; girders are continuous over whole 474 m length between expansion joints at abutments; linear variations of deck are taken up by neoprene cushions separating deck from piers; latter consist of 5 m diam, 1 to 3 m high prestressed concrete rings which were sunk in river bed by undercutting using pontoons suspended between provisional piles.
