Runway reconstruction at military airfield
Description of operations performed on resurfacing asphalt on three concrete runways; flying operations were not interrupted during repairs; Marshall method of asphalt surfacing was specified; base course required binder content of between 4 and 8% of bitumen; in wearing course, optimum binder content is between 5 and 7.5%; laying temperatures, for base course and also for wearing course were 275 to 325 F; rolling temperatures were not less than 250 degrees for each mix; asphalt was laid by two Blaw Knox P.F. 90 spreaders fed by 10 trucks.
