Securing more nearly true precipitation measurements
Small-scale attached wind shields and larger-scale obstructions to wind flow for diminishing detrimental wind effect and to improve gage performance; drop trajectory calculations made using certain assumptions indicate that optimum obstruction height and distance from gage under common wind conditions can be described as circular opening 25 ft in diam in forest with tree tops 15 ft or more above gage orifice.
