Natural ventilation of underground fallout shelters
Effect of inside and outside dry-bulb temperatures and relative humidity; stack heights, diameters and insulation; location of outlet stack opening within shelter; type of ventilator caps on stacks and velocity of wind across stacks is evaluated; tests were conducted in underground concrete shelter with inside dimensions of 10×10×10 ft; air at outside ambient conditions entered shelter through inlet stack; method was developed for predicting natural ventilation rate of underground shelters as function of outside and shelter air temperature, humidity and ventilation system design.
