Natural ventilation of underground fallout shelters
Investigation was conducted to evaluate effect of inside and outside dry-bulb temperatures and relative humidity; stack heights, diameters and insulation; location of outlet stack opening within shelter; type of ventilator caps on stacks; velocity of wind across stacks; tests were conducted in underground concrete shelter with inside dimensions of 10×10×10 ft; air at outside ambient conditions entered shelter through inlet stack; air temperature inside shelter was controlled by electric heaters and ranged from 0 to 40 F above ambient air temperature while shelter relative humidity ranged from 10 to 100% during tests.
