Australia's tallest building
New all-concrete office building in Sydney is in form of cylinder 135 ft in diam; 20 main columns are external to structure, and floor beams run from central circular core out to columns in single clear span; circular reinforced concrete core occupies about 20% of gross floor area; light weight aggregate used in tower was Australian expanded shale; concrete so produced had design strength of 3500 psi at 28 days, but in practice, average strength realized was 4600 psi; normal dense concrete is used below eighth floor.
