Tensile strength of concrete
Study of factors affecting strength of concrete in tension showed that precompression did not increase modulus of rupture, rate of loading had significant effect, rapid loadings gave apparently higher strengths, and low temperatures also lead to higher values for modulus of rupture; results of split cylinder tests made on 4 and 6 in. cylinders supported view that this type of test is to be preferred to modulus of rupture test as method of determining tensile strength.
