Engineers of Syntron Co, working from captured German plans in conjunction with Bureau of Yards and Docks of Navy Dept, completed pile driver which has been placed in service by U S Navy; length oa 15 ft; diam 20 in.; unit can be easily transported; 5400-lb piston has top diam of 18.5 in. and bottom diam of 14 in.; normal stroke is 4 ft and effective stroke is 17 in.; hammer delivers 16,000 ft-lb of driving energy per stroke at rate of 84 strokes per min.
