Dynamic response of restrained sphere in fluid
With A.B.Basset history integral included in equation of motion, steady state damped vibrations of elastically restrained sphere immersed in viscous fluid medium, initially at rest, are studied; transient response of this system due to impulsive loading is treated by numerical method; response curves due to unit disturbance are given from which response due to any arbitrary impulse can be constructed; finally, question of critical damping was investigated, and it was found that presence of history integral precludes overdamping in classical sense.
