Dynamic response of restrained sphere in fluid
Study is described of behavior of simple spherically shaped structure restrained elastically and submerged in viscous fluid; fluid reaction forces are determined, in principle, by first solving Navier-Stokes equations for fluid motions set up by structure motion, and then solving for fluid stresses on structure caused by relative fluid-structure motions; steady state and transient response, and critical damping are determined; structural behavior of sphere is affected by added mass term in equation of motion, by dynamic response of system, and by fluid motion.
