Clyde dry dock project, Greenock
Paper describes design and construction of new and self-contained ship repair installation on River Clyde at Greenock; installation includes dry dock which is largest to be built in Great Britain for more than 30 yr, repair quay and separate tanker cleaning installation, each of which was designed to accommodate 100,000-ton oil tankers; design and equipment of each part of works is described together with more unusual aspects of construction; particular reference is made to difficulties arising from presence of considerable depth of soft clay overlying boulder clay and rock on which works were founded.
