Response of earth dams to strong earthquakes
Nature of ground movements is discussed briefly using as examples acceleration records obtained near epicenter of strong earthquakes; these records are amenable to analysis, and results are extremely useful in understanding nature of strong ground movements; using acceleration records of actual earthquakes, response of typical dam sections is studied and time history and distribution of seismic accelerations in body of these structures computed; maximum accelerations in dams follow consistent distribution which may be used in stability analysis.
