Causes of movement in reinforced concrete turbo-blocks and developments in turbo-block design and construction
Existing reinforced concrete turbogenerator blocks in 120 to 200 Mw range were studied to establish extent and cause of differential movements in concrete and their effects on machine; level measurement readings on these blocks were correlated with changes in concrete temperature, moisture content, and variations of ambient conditions; conclusions are drawn regarding block design and construction, and machine alignment procedures; current design and construction methods of 500 to 660 Mw blocks now under construction are reviewed and relative merits of concrete and steel blocks compared.
