New types of rolls for continuous rolling mills at Krivorog metallurgical plant
Replacement of rapidly wearing forged steel rolls of types 50 and 55Kh steel by high strength rolls of alloyed magnesium iron on 900/700 continuous billet mill, increased roll service life by factor of 1.7 to 4; similar rolls are now used in four-high stands of 300 skelp mill for backing; chilled iron with 1.0 to 1.5% Ni is recommended for rolls of intermediate stands; building surfaces with multilayers of welded-on powder alloy wire increased their service life by factor of 2.8 to 5.
