Progress made in development of methods, techniques, and criteria for constructing roads on glacial ice surfaces and adjacent ice-free terrain; terrain, weather, ice movement and ablation, meltwater flow, performance of road fills, subsurface temperatures, and thaw penetration were studied; soil properties of area were investigated to obtain data on sources of borrow materials and other information; road construction described; 80-ft-long wooden-pile-bent bridge built on ice. Appendix by S.D.WILSON describes use of Wilson slope indicator at Camp Tuto.
