Blast for better riprap
Upstream face of Fort Peck dam in northeastern Montana, is protected by riprap placed on 18-in. gravel layer; wide gaps between stones permitted high waves to erode gravel bed underlying riprap; to prevent this erosion, three methods were specified all involving closing of interstices between stones and breaking down larger stones; all methods were found effective.
