Old method with new twist solves bank shoring problem
Problems in foundation wall for 21-story office building in Phoenix, Ariz, were solved by alternating hand-dug pits, 3 ft wide and 6 ft long, with undug sections for support; after reinforced concrete wall sections were placed and braced against concrete footings, alternate sections were completed; soil pressure was estimated using Terzaghi and Peck trapezoidal formula and coefficient for dry sand.
