Saving in space and construction cost for columns with cast-iron cores; cores are solid round cast-iron members 11 in. in diam. at base and gradually reducing in increments of 1/4 to 3/4 at top of building; permits design of tall concrete buildings with only one or two column sizes in entire building; comparing structural and economic difference between Emperger column and type that has become known as standard; basis of design on which data is computed.
