Polystyrene foam, named Styropor, was tested for use as aggregate in concrete; foaming was achieved by hot water soaking on site; results of tests with neat cement and with cement and sand show properties of Styropor as aggregate with regard to mixing, bulk density, flexural and compressive strength, water absorption, and thermal conductivity; two suitable mixes have been formulated; use of Styropor concrete for insulating blocks and wall slabs.
