Highlights The chosen test configurations have insignificant boundary effect and would not alter the failure mechanism of foundations. The load-strain behavior obtained from geogrid tensile test can represent the behavior of reinforcement in foundation soils. Numerical analysis by introducing the plane strain friction angles is of significance for comparison with existing study.
