Citizen participation in Frisco main street: Revitalization
AbstractFrisco, Colorado, a small community located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, set out in 1980, after several years of economic stagnation, to develop a plan to revitalize their main street. With the help of a private consultant, the town staff and interested citizens engaged in a unique planning process centered around community participation. This process of citizen involvement, often described as unproductive and futile, in Frisco's case brought the community together and produced positive results. This paper will discuss and evaluate this planning process.
