With a trough sleeper which has a substantially U-shaped cross-section, comprising a base surface and lateral walls extending therefrom, and which has a rail fastening system, wherein the rail fastening system comprises at least one ribbed plate, which is fastened with fastening means to the trough sleeper, wherein the fastening means comprise at least one bolt extending through an elongated hole in order to longitudinally position the ribbed plate, the ribbed plate comprises fastening flanges which extend along the lateral walls of the trough sleeper and which are attached to same, wherein the fastening flanges on each lateral wall interact with the fastening means such that at least one bolt extends through the associated elongated hole substantially parallel to the base surface of the trough sleeper.
