Improvements in suspended ceilings
Abstract Components and sub-assemblies of components for forming suspended ceilings which provide lateral restraint against earthquake are disclosed. The components include a joining member (16) for engaging a furring channel (12) of a suspended ceiling, having an inverted U-shaped configuration, and comprises a pair of transversely spaced generally parallel longitudinally extending flanges connected by a longitudinally extending top, the pair of transversely spaced flanges engaging the sides of the furring channel (12) in use. A bracing element (50) for attachment to wires and/or struts for supporting the ceiling includes four intersecting arms which define tab plates at their ends for attachment to supporting wires. A depending tab which is connectable to a top cross rail (17) or joining member extends from at least one arm of the bracing element. A locking element (100) for connecting a top cross rail to a furring channel, has an inverted U-shaped configuration and comprises a pair of transversely spaced generally parallel longitudinally extending sides connected by a longitudinally extending top. Distal ends of the sides define hooks with which the lips of a furring channel can be engaged. The top and sides of the locking element are configured for insertion within the top cross rail. An abutment means (106) limits movement of the sides of the furring channel and inhibit disengagement of the lips of the furring channel from the locking element.
