Abstract A screw pile end piece (10) formed in one piece by casting, for supporting a compressive load carried by a shaft fixed to the end piece, includes a body portion (12) having a first end (14) for attachment to the shaft, and a tip (34) at an opposite end. An integrally cast helical screw in the form of a single fin (40) extends in a turn around the body portion through at least 3700 and less than about 385°, so that the ends of the fin overlap by 10° to 25°. The fin (40) has a substantially constant diameter for the one turn is tapered so that it is thickest nearest to the body portion and thinnest at the outer edge of the fin distal from the body.
