Draining mechanism (10) for a sanitary vessel (12), such as a bathtub or the like, and method for installing such a draining mechanism (10) on a sanitary vessel (12) in which the draining mechanism (10) is adapted to be installed in sanitary vessels (12) of different wall thicknesses and comprising an actuator (56) which does not need to be bulky or aesthetically unpleasant when the sanitary vessel wall thickness is small. The invention also facilitates the movement of the actuator (56) even when the actuator (56) becomes wet.
