A sealing device for sealing the open end of a bathtub overflow pipe while using a plunger to unclog a drain pipe of the bathtub includes a generally cup shaped body having an open end, and an adhesive layer on the open end. The adhesive layer is placed against a side wall of the bathtub to form a seal with the side wall closing the open end of the overflow pipe. The body defines an interior chamber sized to receive an overflow plate covering the overflow pipe opening and/or a drain plug trip lever when the sealing device is placed against the side wall.
