The invention discloses a method for reducing heat release during hydration of magnesium oxychloride cement. The method for reducing heat release during hydration of magnesium oxychloride cement comprises the following steps: uniformly mixing magnesium oxide, magnesium chloride, water and a chemical additive to form magnesium oxychloride cement, wherein mass ratio of magnesium oxide to magnesium chloride to water is (1.2-2.8):1:(2-3.2), and mass ratio of chemical additive to magnesium chloride is (1-3):100. The method for reducing heat release during hydration of magnesium oxychloride cement has the advantages that the chemical additive is doped in a magnesium oxide-magnesium chloride-water ternary raw material system, and the aims of reducing heat release during hydration of magnesium oxychloride cement and prolonging ending time of an induction period and ending time of an acceleration period are achieved.
