The invention discloses a hydrophobic modifier for a building material surface and a preparation method of the hydrophobic modifier. The hydrophobic modifier is an oil-inorganic crosslinking hydrophobic agent, and comprises the following components in parts by weight: 60-100 parts of illegal cooking oil, 0-6 parts of an emulsifier and 10-30 parts of an inorganic crosslinking agent, wherein the content of high-grade fatty glyceride in the illegal cooking oil is greater than 50%. The hydrophobic modifier disclosed by the invention is stable in hydrophobic ability, firm in combination with the building material surface, economical, and low in cost and is suitable for hydrophobic modification of the hydrophobic building material surface; the combination stability of the hydrophobic components of the illegal cooking oil and the building material surface is improved by adopting an oil-inorganic crosslinking method, so that the hydrophobic effect can be kept for a long time.
