The invention discloses a method for improving stress performance of a retaining wall and a retaining wall structure. The retaining wall structure comprises the retaining wall, and a platform plate is horizontally arranged on the wall back face of the retaining wall; and the length of the platform plate extends to a sliding face of a sliding soil wedge of a wall back. Due to the adoption of the technical scheme, compared with the prior art, the retaining wall structure is convenient to implement. The platform plate is manufactured on the wall back face of a conventional retaining wall, and a pressure reduction structure can be formed; pressure of overturn soil of the wall back can be reduced, and overturning resistance capability of the retaining wall is enhanced; the stress performance of the retaining wall is improved, and the manufacturing height of the wall is reduced, so that the aim of saving the material utilization amount of the wall is achieved; and meanwhile, the construction time is reduced, the direct economic benefits are achieved, and the method for improving the stress performance of the retaining wall and the retaining wall structure are suitable for being popularized.
