The invention relates to a salt slow-release material as well as a preparation method and an application thereof. Raw materials used for preparing the salt slow-release material comprise metakaolin powder, an activator, inorganic salt compounds, a water-proofing agent and a modifier, wherein the metakaolin powder is obtained by calcining kaolin at the temperature of 800-900 DEG C, and the specific surface area of the metakaolin powder is larger than 400 m<2>/kg. The preparation method comprises steps as follows: after the metakaolin powder, the inorganic salt compounds and the water-proofing agent are uniformly mixed, water is added, the mixture is subjected to ball milling, slurry capable of passing through a 200-mesh sieve is obtained, the activator is added for solidification, a solidification body is dried and smashed, and block gel materials are obtained and uniformly mixed with the modifier, the mixture is subjected to ball milling, and a salt release powdery material is obtained. The salt slow-release material can be applied as a snow-melting agent. According to the preparation method, by means of an inorganic gelling technology, particles of the inorganic salt compounds are directly subjected to wet coating and dry modification, and finally, the environment-friendly salt release material with hydrophobic and slow release functions is obtained.
