The invention relates to an insulation material for an exhaust pipe, in particular to a composite modified rectorite-carbonized foaming phenolic resin based insulation material for a forklift engine exhaust pipe and a preparation method of the insulation material. During preparation of the insulation material, foaming treatment is conducted on phenolic resin doped with mesocarbon microbeads at first; the obtained modified phenolic resin foam power is more efficient in carbonization in a follow-up carbonization process; the insulation material subjected to carbonization treatment is compact in structure, higher in strength and lower in thermal conductivity coefficient; the insulation material comprises a composite rectorite micro powder adhesive being high in bonding capability, activity and thermal stability, so that the insulation material subjected to high-temperature treatment is prevented from cracking; through adding of activated carbon, the insulation material can adsorb objectionable odor to a certain extent and improve the quality of air in an engine room; the composite insulation material subjected to high-temperature treatment has the advantages of being lightweight, insulated and environmentally friendly; insulation plates, insulation sleeves and other finished products made of the insulation material are excellent in insulation effect, efficient and durable; through the adoption of the insulation material, the working environment of a forklift engine is effectively improved.
