The invention discloses a novel box-type steel bridge pier. The novel box-type steel bridge pier comprises a box-type steel bridge pier main body, a transverse diaphragm, a buckling-restrained frame body and a bottom plate, which are welded together in sequence from top to bottom, wherein the buckling-restrained frame body comprises four right-angled and L-shaped high strength steel plates and four flat plate-shaped low yield point steel plates; the four high strength steel plates form four hollow square-shaped corners; corresponding arms of the two adjacent high strength steel plates are detachably connected with each other through a low yield point steel plate; the external side surface of each low yield point steel plate is aligned with the external side surface of the corresponding arm of each high strength steel plate; and an internal restraint steel plate and an external restraint steel plate are also locked on the internal side and the external side of each low yield point steel plate, respectively. The novel box-type steel bridge pier disclosed by the invention is simply structured, is fast to construct on site, can be rapidly detected and repaired after earthquakes and is convenient for promotion and application in practical engineering.
