The invention relates to a zirconia refractory material and a preparation method thereof. The zirconia refractory material comprises, by weight, 75-80% of a zirconia raw material, 2.6-3% of nanometer alumina, 5-6.4% of graphene, 1-2% of an additive, 1-3% of titanium oxide, 1-3% of silicon carbide, 1.5-3% of boron carbide, 2-5% of nanometer magnesium oxide and 1-4% of nanometer neodymium oxide. The inside of the refractory material prepared in the invention is compact, so the bulk density is improved, and the apparent porosity of the refractory material is reduced to prevent expansion, thereby all physical performances, such as strength, of the refractory material are further improved without increasing the volume expansion ratio, the thermal shock resistance and the hot shock resistance.
