The invention discloses an automatic gear shifting control method of a wheel type excavator during travelling. The method involves a high-speed gear and a low-speed gear, and is characterized in thatthe travelling speed and the running pump pressure value of the excavator are collected, a controller is used for carrying out comparison operation, and when the travelling speed and the running pumppressure value meet preset conditions, a transmission mode of a gear box is controlled to be the low-speed gear or the high-speed gear. According to the method, certain absorption, attenuation and buffering functions can be played, and the impact and dynamic load on an engine are greatly reduced; and due to the good self-adaptive control, the gear shifting is realized automatically, the gear shifting times in the running process are greatly reduced, the excavator is easily started and stable in gear shifting, and the operation convenience is increased.
