The invention discloses a damping device for a building. The damping device comprises an upper support and a lower support, the upper support comprises an upper fixing plate, spring connecting rods, an upper sliding block and rubber, the lower support comprises a lower sliding block and a lower fixing plate, the spring connecting rods are connected with the upper fixing plate and the lower fixingplate through hinges, and the upper fixing plate is connected with the lower fixing plate through the rubber. According to the damping device, when transverse wave in an earthquake arrives, the uppersupport which freely moves on the lower sliding block reduces energy brought by the transverse wave through the horizontal movement of the upper support on the lower sliding block, and meanwhile the friction between a movable block and a tetrafluoro plate can also greatly reduce the energy brought by the transverse wave; and when longitudinal wave comes, a spring arranged between the movable blockand the interior of a groove can play a quite good damping effect, most of energy is weakened by the spring after passing through the spring, and thus the building above the support can be well protected, the integrity of the structure can be maintained in the earthquake, and the life safety of people in the building is protected.
