The invention relates to the technical field of composite materials, and discloses a graphite tailing thermal insulation concrete block and a preparation method thereof. The graphite tailing thermal insulation concrete block is prepared from 55-65 parts of graphite tailings, 35-45 parts of an inorganic cementing material, 0.01-0.07 part of a water repellent agent and 0.50-0.90 part of a drag reducer through mixing, stirring, vibratory compression, stacking, standing, laminating and curing. The polycarboxylic high-performance drag reducer is added, due to the adsorption effect of the drag reducer, the surface charge distribution and steric hindrance effect of tricalcium aluminate and tricalcium silicate particles in cement are changed, and the acting force among the cement particles is changed, so that the viscosity in a material stirring and mold entering cavity is reduced, and exhaust filling is facilitated due to particle dispersion; and secondly, due to the addition of the drag reducer, a proper small amount of wetting water among particles can be kept during stirring, and the phenomenon that the bottom surface of the thermal insulation concrete block is moist and discharges water is avoided.
