The invention discloses a sinking method of an ultra-large open caisson. The sinking method comprises the following steps: S1, a soil body at the bottom of the ultra-large open caisson is divided intoblind areas and non-blind areas, and an allowable soil sampling depth Hc<'> of soil bodies of the non-blind areas is calculated; S2, a critical width B<'> of soil bodies in the blind areas is calculated according to the allowable soil sampling depth Hc<'> of the non-blind areas, and the critical width B<'> is the critical width of the ultra-large open caisson when the soil bodies of the blind areas are damaged; S3, soil is continuously taken down in the non-blind areas until the depth of formed well holes reaches the allowable soil sampling depth Hc<">; S4, soil is taken from the adjacent blind areas in the well holes until the width of the soil bodies in the blind areas is continuously reduced to the critical width B<'>, and at the moment, the ultra-large open caisson relies on self-weight soil cutting and sinking; and S5, after the ultra-large open caisson stops cutting soil downwards, the step S3-step S4 is repeated until the ultra-large open caisson sinks to a designed elevation.The method can realize smooth and safe sinking of the ultra-large open caisson.
