The invention provides a large water tank used for a severe cold area. The large water tank comprises filling soil behind a wall, a water tank side wall and a water tank bottom plate, wherein a gas pump or a water pump is placed on the filling soil behind the wall; the gas pump or the water pump is connected to a spray nozzle through a pipeline embedded in the water tank side wall; non-freezing water level is formed on the water tank side wall with the spray nozzle; an ice layer is formed on the water tank side wall without the spray nozzle; the part, close to the non-freezing water level, ofthe ice layer is gradually changed into an ice tongue; and a crossed part of the water tank side wall and the ice layer is coated with an anti-freezing coating. The large water tank used for the severe cold area provided by the invention can remarkably reduce ice pressure generated by the ice layer of the large water tank used for the severe cold area, reduces water tank cracking and water-leakingrisk, can save engineering quantity, saves investment, guarantees normal operation of the water tank, and brings benefits into play.
