The invention provides magnesium oxide powder for a calcining high-temperature oven as well as a preparation method and application thereof. The magnesium oxide powder is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 95 to 99 parts of MgO; 0.5 to 1.2 parts of CaO; 0.25 to 0.5 part of Fe2O3; 0.1 to 0.4 part of Al2O3; 1.0 to 2.0 parts of SiO2; and less than or equal to 0.2 part of water(LOI). The invention further discloses a preparation method of the magnesium oxide powder for the calcining high-temperature oven. The temperature resistance, the service lifetime, the insulation andthe breakdown resistance of the magnesium oxide powder for the calcining high-temperature oven are superior to those of magnesium oxide for the high-temperature oven. A heating tube prepared from themagnesium oxide powder meets the national requirements on the leakage current of an electric heating element.
