According to the hydraulic tamping device, the process that a tamping block ascends to store gravitational potential energy is fully utilized, when a hydraulic cylinder drives a lifting rod to ascend so as to drive the tamping block at the bottom to move upwards to prepare for next tamping, the lifting rod drives a rubber wheel in contact with the lifting rod to rotate rapidly through friction, and therefore a tamping rod which is located on the other side and is in contact with the lifting rod is driven to rapidly move downwards along the interior of a sliding cylinder and finally slides out of the bottom of the sliding cylinder to impact the ground; and when the tamping block moves upwards to the upper limit position and moves downwards to impact, the rubber wheel is driven to rotate reversely, and therefore the rubber wheel drives the tamping rod to move upwards reversely to the topof the sliding cylinder to store the gravitational potential energy to prepare for next falling impact, the tamping block and the tamping rod can conduct tamping operation alternately, and the working efficiency is greatly improved.
