The invention discloses a standby unlocking device and an unlocking method, relates to the technical field of locks, and solves the technical problem that a closed intelligent lock cannot be opened after a battery in the closed intelligent lock is out of power. The standby unlocking device comprises a shell, a battery and a plug; the battery is arranged in the shell; one end of the plug is connected with the shell and is electrically connected with two poles of the battery; and the other end of the plug is inserted into the lock. When the battery of the lock is out of power and the lock is ina closed state, the plug of the standby unlocking device is inserted into a connecting hole in the lock, and power is supplied to the lock through the connecting hole, so that the lock can be connected with intelligent terminals such as a mobile phone, and then unlocking is realized under the control of the intelligent terminals such as the mobile phone.
