The invention relates to a magnesia spinel castable for the ladle bottom of a steel ladle and a preparation method thereof. The magnesia spinel castable comprises the following raw materials in partsby weight: 50-60 parts of sintered corundum particles, 15-25 parts of sintered corundum fine powder, 10-20 parts of magnesium aluminate spinel fine powder, 3-5 parts of activated aluminum oxide fine powder, 1-1.5 parts of organic fibers, 2-4 parts of alumina sol, and 0.05-1 part of a polycarboxylate. The invention has the advantages of excellent thermal shock resistance, low corrosivity and greatly prolonged service life. Aluminum sol is used as a binding agent, so that introduced calcium oxide impurities can be reduced.
