The invention relates to a ramming material for a steel ladle and a preparation method thereof. The ramming material comprises the following components in percentage by weight: 45-55% of regenerated ramming material; 20-25% of silicon carbide powder; 10%-15% of bauxite; 3-5% of silicon nitride powder; 3-5% of bentonite; 3-5% of modified resin; and 2-5% of aluminum silicate fiber.s The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) sorting regenerated ramming materials to remove impurities, putting the ramming materials into a crusher, and performing crushing and sieving; (2) mixing the regenerated ramming material with silicon carbide powder, bauxite, silicon nitride powder and bentonite in a mixer; and (3) uniformly mixing the rubber powder, the starch and the paper pulp powder. The ramming material is obtained by sorting the reclaimed material, removing impurities, performing crushing and mixing and compounding with other raw materials and the plasticizer, so that the recycling of high-value raw materials is achieved, the production cost is effectively reduced, the problems of poor plasticity and viscosity are solved by the plasticizer, the overall performance of the ramming material is improved, and the service life of the ramming material is prolonged.
