The invention discloses a starch modified polycarboxylate superplasticizer and a preparation method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of superplasticizer preparation. The starch modified polycarboxylate superplasticizer is specifically prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 1000 to 1350 parts of polyether monomers, 350 to 600 parts of modified starch slurry, 0.2 to 0.5 part of mercaptopropionic acid, 145 to 200 parts of acrylic acid, 0 to 50 parts of maleic anhydride, 0 to 50 parts of hydroxyethyl acrylate, 2 to 3 parts of vitamin C, 8 to 10 parts of an oxidizing agent, 80 to 120 parts of a neutralizing agent and 2600 to 2850 parts of water. Starch slurry and maleic anhydride react through a millstone force chemical reactor, unsaturated groups are efficiently grafted into a starch molecular structure, then modified starch slurry, polyether monomers, acrylic acid and the like are polymerized, and the starch modified polycarboxylate superplasticizer is prepared. The defects of solvent, oxidation, esterification and other methods in the prior art are avoided, and the production cost of the superplasticizer is greatly reduced.
