The embodiment of the invention discloses a main cable detection robot, and the robot is used for detecting a large-diameter main cable of a suspension bridge, and comprises a rack, a lateral supporting wheel set and a detection assembly, wherein the rack is used for bearing the detection assembly and the lateral supporting wheel set; the lateral supporting wheel set comprises a left lateral wheel set assembly and a right lateral wheel set assembly, and the left lateral wheel set assembly and the right lateral wheel set assembly are arranged on the two sides of the machine frame respectively and matched with handrail ropes on the two sides of a main cable in a supporting mode, so that the lateral supporting wheel sets can drive the main cable detection robot to move along the handrail rope. The detection assembly is arranged on the rack and used for detecting the main cable. The main cable detection robot provided by the scheme runs by taking the handrail rope as a track, so the influence on the detection process of the detection robot caused by a cable clamp and a cross brace on the surface of the main cable is avoided, and the applicability of the main cable detection robot is improved.
