The invention discloses an X8R type capacitor dielectric material and a preparation method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of electronic ceramic application. The preparation method comprises the following steps: proportioning titanium dioxide, sodium carbonate, barium carbonate, calcium carbonate, hafnium oxide and bismuth trioxide according to a nominal chemical formula of 0.65 (0.94Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-0.06BaTiO3)-0.35Ca (Ti0.8Hf0.2)O3 in a stoichiometric ratio, carrying out ball milling, refining the raw materials, pre-sintering, carrying out secondary ball milling and the like, and carrying out a solid-phase reaction and a carbonate decomposition process, thereby obtaining the product. According to the method disclosed by the invention, the dielectric ceramic material with excellent temperature stability can be obtained and meets the EIAX8R standard; and the method is simple, energy-saving, emission-reducing, low in cost and suitable for batch production.
