The invention provides an automatic climbing device and climbing method for lifting equipment. The automatic climbing device comprises a first climbing rail, a second climbing rail and a driving mechanism, wherein the first climbing rail is provided with a first rolling connecting part; the second climbing rail is provided with a second rolling connecting part; the first rolling connecting part and the second rolling connecting part can be connected in a mutually rolling manner; the driving mechanism is connected to the first climbing rail and the second climbing rail and used for driving the first climbing rail and the second climbing rail to alternately and relatively move in the vertical direction; the first climbing rail or the second climbing rail is fixedly connected to a scaffold; and the first climbing rail and the second climbing rail alternately climb and are detachably connected to a building wall alternately, and the scaffold can be driven to climb to the preset height position. Therefore, the lifting efficiency of the scaffold can be effectively improved, and the manual participation degree is reduced. The problems that in the prior art, the scaffold lifting process is tedious, and the construction efficiency is affected are solved.
