The invention provides a steel box girder mounting device and method for an existing railway transport line. The device comprises a support (1) which is arranged on the side face of a permanent support of a bridge and used for serving as a temporary support, a cushion pier set which is arranged on the support (1) and used for heightening a steel box girder, and a telescopic cylinder (5) which is used for generating displacement thrust on the steel box girder. When the steel box girder is lifted, through the support (1) and the cushion pier set, clearance type supporting on the steel box girder on the permanent support of the bridge is achieved, after the steel box girder is placed on the cushion pier set, the displacement position of the steel box girder suspended on the permanent support of the bridge is adjusted through the telescopic cylinder (5), and therefore the installation effect on the steel box girder on the existing railway transportation line is improved.
